OpenAI has announced the launch of Dots, its new AI spies designed to take over users’ daily tasks and increase productivity. Powered by GPT-6 Astra, this system is positioned as a capable assistant that can work 24/7 on your behalf. Dots are always-active spies that learn what is valuable to you, allowing you to dedicate your time and attention to other tasks. Equipped with their own cloud computers, these systems learn from your feedback and continue to work in the background to help you achieve your goals.

Dots’ Working Principles and Capabilities

Thanks to its plugin ecosystem, Dots can connect to over 4,000 applications, giving you access to tools to help you wherever you need them. Whether via ChatGPT, text messaging, Slack, or Teams, these spy devices are always within reach.

Dots start with almost everything you would provide for a new employee and have their own identities for access permissions. They can use their own browsers, write code, and test as needed.

Your Dot can take on and advance a new project even while working on other projects simultaneously. You can continue giving them new tasks and ideas without having to follow different chats.

For example, if you are a developer, your Dot can track customer feedback, identify bug fixes, and present PRs ready for review. If you’re a content creator, you can create drafts of social media posts from interview transcripts and prepare section notes.

If you work as a scientist, you can rerun analyzes as new data arrives and update forms in your article. For sales managers, you can update proposals by comparing customer needs and manage integration processes.

Security, Control, and Enterprise Use

Dots come with security and confidentiality measures in addition to the defenses offered by ChatGPT. Each Dot runs on its own cloud computer, and your content remains separate unless you choose to connect it.

Built-in security measures provide defense against malicious instructions and monitor potentially harmful behavior. If your Dot detects a security issue, it can pause or completely stop the operation.

You choose which applications can access them and manage their permissions through ChatGPT application controls. With Special Rules, you can allow, require approval for, or block reasonable actions.

Expert Dots, designed for organizations, will certainly assume responsibilities within the company. Your company can configure each Dot with its own identity and access to the systems it needs to complete its tasks.

OpenAI is working with Microsoft to integrate expert Dots with Microsoft’s enterprise governance and security controls in Agent 365. This will allow IT teams to monitor Dot activities with the controls they are accustomed to.

Dots are being rolled out gradually to Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets via ChatGPT today. Enterprise users can try the beta version when their workspace administrators enable it.
