Nintendo has announced the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Special Edition and its accompanying accessories, prepared specifically for the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series. This special console and its accessories will be released on October 29, 2026.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be released one week later, on November 5, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-orders for the special edition hardware have officially begun in several regions worldwide.

Zelda Themed Special Design and Content

The Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition features Triforce motifs exclusive to the Zelda series on the back of the console, the dock unit, and the Joy-Con 2 controllers. The design predominantly features green, black, and gold tones.

The special design isn’t limited to the console alone; a Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and carrying case are also available for purchase. The console package includes a specially designed Nintendo Switch 2, Joy-Con 2 (L/R), Joy-Con 2 wrist straps, and a dock unit.

Additionally, the box includes a Joy-Con 2 Grip, Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter, USB-C charging cable, and Ultra High-Speed ​​HDMI cable. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time game is not included in this package and must be purchased separately.

In Japan, the recommended retail price for the special Nintendo Switch 2 model is 62,980 yen including taxes. The Zelda 40th Anniversary Special Edition Pro Controller, offered with a display stand, is priced at 12,980 yen, while the carrying case with screen protector costs 3,980 yen.

Australia was one of the first regions to begin pre-orders. The Zelda 40th Anniversary Special Edition Switch 2 is priced at AU$799.95, and the matching Pro Controller at AU$149.95.

The physical version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is also available for pre-order in the same region for AU$109.95. Nintendo Store pages in the US and UK are also going live for the console, controller, and game.

In the US, the digital version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is priced at $59.99, and the physical version at $69.99. The first production batch of the physical version will use special packaging with a textured foil cover design.

Ocarina of Time Remake and New Features

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, originally released for Nintendo 64 in 1998, returns for Switch 2 with visually stunning remastered versions. Textures and environmental details have been updated, loading times have been shortened, performance has been improved, and sound has been reworked.

The game’s music is presented to players with symphonic orchestra recordings. Cutscenes are fully voiced, and character dialogues are expanded.

The revamped control system allows Link to jump and run using different button commands. Free camera control can be used via the right analog stick.

In the remodeled areas, the camera can move freely, and the day-night cycle continues seamlessly throughout the entire game world, including towns. The new Threads of Time system allows the player to control their progress in the story and their next mission during gameplay.

The Switch 2’s built-in microphone is also used for Ocarina use. When melodies that Link has learned are hummed near the console, the character can play these melodies with his in-game ocarina.

Ocarina of Time will also have ZELDA NOTES support in the Nintendo Switch app. The Today’s Record section records daily progress and statistics such as the number of enemies defeated.

The Play Ocarina feature allows playing a virtual ocarina via the touchscreen and creating melodies that can be shared via QR code. The Ocarina of Time Quiz section contains over 2,000 questions in total.

New amiibo figures for Young Link and Young Zelda will also be released in 2027. When used in Ocarina of Time, these figures will unlock special in-game masks using retro graphics.
