Nintendo Switch 2 Gains VRR Support in Dock Mode

Nintendo Switch 2 Gains VRR Support in Dock Mode

Nintendo has officially launched VRR support in docked mode with the 23.0.0 update released for Switch 2. New features and system improvements are in our news.

Nintendo has officially launched VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support in TV mode with the new software update #23.0.0 for the long-awaited Switch 2.

This critical update, coming approximately 16 months after the console’s release, aims to significantly improve gaming performance in docked mode. Initially only available in handheld mode, the VRR feature had been a subject of much debate regarding Nintendo’s official announcements. Now, users can experience games with a much smoother frame rate, provided both the software and the television support it.

  • VRR support has been enabled in docked mode with version 23.0.0 of Nintendo Switch 2.
  • To benefit from the new feature, the Switch 2 Dock device needs to be updated.
  • With the update, full data transfer between the two consoles is now possible.
  • VRR support for Brazilian Portuguese has been added to the accessibility options.

VRR Support Improves Gaming Experience

This breakthrough by Nintendo allows game developers to offer a dynamic flow according to the game’s pace without having to fix frame rates at 30 or 60 FPS. This promises a smoother visual experience by reducing screen tearing, especially in high-performance productions. However, users are required to update both the software and their dock hardware to the latest version in order to benefit from this new technology.

System Update Brings New Features

In addition to VRR support, the 23.0.0 update brings many different innovations that enrich the user experience. One of the most notable features is full data transfer support, which allows the transfer of all data, including game saves and screenshots, between two Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. Additionally, the ability to create and share QR codes for Mii characters has been added, increasing social interaction.

Accessibility and Settings Updated

Nintendo has also taken significant steps in terms of accessibility. Text-to-speech for Brazilian Portuguese and speech-to-text conversion in in-game chat have been added to the system. However, the audio output settings can be saved differently for each TV, and the “Video Output Information” menu has been detailed to allow users to more easily monitor signal quality.

Upcoming Games Generate Excitement

While these hardware improvements continue, Nintendo is also rapidly announcing new games. The recently announced Metroid Ravenous and the meticulously crafted remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have been met with great enthusiasm by fans. In particular, how the 1998 classic will be blended with contemporary technology remains one of the most important issues on the gaming community’s agenda.
