New Regulation in IMEI Regulation from BTK!

New Regulation in IMEI Regulation from BTK!

With the new regulations made by BTK in the IMEI regulation, device replacement and motherboard renewal processes can be easily done via e-Government.

Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) has made major changes to the IMEI regulation, which is closely related to smartphone users. With the new regulation, which came into force after being published in the Official Gazette, it is aimed to eliminate the bureaucratic obstacles experienced especially in the malfunction processes of devices brought from abroad.

Now, in case of device replacement or motherboard renewal, users will be able to complete IMEI registration processes directly via e-Government without having to go to physical centers. This innovation aims to end the inconvenience in the repair process, especially of devices that are registered with a passport.

  • In case of device replacement or motherboard renewal, IMEI registration updates can be made via e-Government.
  • In order to benefit from this right, users must apply and submit official documents within 3 calendar years.
  • Foreign Mission Identity Card holders can register a device using the e-Government platform during the card validity period.

IMEI Registration Processes Are Going Digital

The new regulation includes important steps that will make the lives of technological device owners easier. In the past, if the motherboard of a phone purchased and registered abroad was changed due to a technical malfunction, this meant that the IMEI number of the device would also change. This caused the user’s device to appear systemically “alien” and again cause the user to struggle with the registration process.

Now, applications made via e-Government with documents prepared by the technical service fit this complex process into minutes.

It is a rule for the candidate to have ready the official documents issued by the company that carries out the exchange process. These documents are expected to include critical details such as the company name, the reason for the malfunction, and the old and new IMEI information. In addition, the 3 calendar year rule will be applied meticulously to prevent misuse of the system.

New Rights Are Granted for Foreign Mission Representatives

Another important change made by BTK covers Foreign Mission Identity Card holders, who are granted tax exemption by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Registration processes, which were previously limited, allow these individuals to simply register their devices via e-Government during the validity period of their diplomatic cards.

This regulation for foreign delegation workers is seen as a big step towards the digitalization of diplomatic procedures.

These new regulations aim to make smartphone usage traffic in Türkiye more controllable and user-friendly. This digital transformation, which eliminates the necessity of going to physical subscriber registration centers and waiting in line, also coincides with BTK’s vision of gathering public services under the umbrella of e-Government.

Do you think this new regulation of BTK will be enough to completely solve the problems experienced by users who bring devices from abroad? Do not forget to share your opinions and experiences on the subject with us in the comments section.
