New Era in Diesel Prices: Special Consumption Tax Zeroed

New Era in Diesel Prices: Special Consumption Tax Zeroed

The SCT on diesel was zeroed until the end of August. According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, a gradual increase will be applied from September onwards.

The tension between the US and Iran affecting the Strait of Hormuz directly impacted global fuel prices this year. Constantly rising fuel costs pose significant risks to inflation both globally and in Türkiye.

The sliding scale system, implemented for some time in response to rising prices, aimed to minimize the impact of price increases on the price charts. Due to the negative impact of diesel prices, particularly on the transportation sector, a new Special Consumption Tax (SCT) regulation has been implemented.

The SCT on diesel has been zeroed, and a gradual increase is planned.

With the regulation published in the Official Gazette, the SCT on diesel has been zeroed until the end of August. After this date, the SCT rate will increase gradually.

In September, 3 TL per liter of ÖTV will be applied, in October 6 TL, in November 9 TL, and in December 12 TL. From January onwards, a Special Consumption Tax (SCT) regulation of 13.9006 TL per liter will continue.

Market expectations and other fuel types

The impact of the regulation on pump prices is not yet clear. Some sources predict that, although there may be differences based on provinces, the price of diesel per liter could range between 65 TL and 70 TL.

On the other hand, there is no change in the SCT for fuel and LPG prices. What are your thoughts on the effects of this new regulation on the fuel market?
