German automotive giant BMW has accelerated testing for the new generation of its flagship SUV model, the X7. A new BMW X7 prototype spotted on the Nürburgring track confirms that the brand will carry its iconic design language and powerful performance heritage into the future. The test vehicle, believed to be the M Performance version, attracts attention with its quad exhaust outlets, signaling that the eagerly awaited V8 engine option will continue to be present in the new generation. This prototype, which is not yet in mass production, shows that BMW is blending both classic engine technologies and digitalization to maintain its position in the luxury segment.

The new generation X7 exhibits an evolutionary approach rather than a radical change in its exterior design. BMW’s characteristic massive “nose” grille and split headlight structure remain as the basic design element on the front of the vehicle. However, it is observed that contemporary touches, such as the hidden door handles, have been added with the aim of increasing the car’s aerodynamic efficiency. At the rear, the redesigned taillights that extend seamlessly to the tailgate give the model a more modern look.

Engine Options Remain Performance-Oriented

The 530 horsepower 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine used in the current X7 M60i model may be replaced by a more powerful unit in the new generation. This new version, rumored to be named M70, aims to raise the bar in the SUV segment competition by exceeding 600 horsepower. Entry-level models are expected to use inline six-cylinder engines supported by 48-volt mild hybrid systems.

Technological Infrastructure Renewed in the Interior

The most striking change in the vehicle is in the interior. BMW will integrate the Panoramic iDrive system into the X7, offering drivers and passengers a wider digital interface. Data projected onto the lower part of the windscreen and a central touchscreen take the driving experience to a completely digital level. Moreover, it is anticipated that the Alpina XB7 model will continue to exist as a special and luxurious version within the BMW lineup.

Preparations Continue for an Electric Future

BMW is also working intensively on a fully electric iX7 alongside internal combustion engine versions. Both gasoline and electric versions will share an improved version of the modular CLAR platform, known for its flexibility. This strategy allows BMW to optimize production costs and efficiently roll out the technology during the transition to different power units. While there is no official announcement yet regarding the launch date of the new BMW X7, the testing phase of prototypes proves that the brand is nearing the end of the project.
