New AI Features Arrive in Firefox: Here Are All the Features

Mozilla announced new tab grouping and search capabilities for Firefox’s AI-powered Smart Window feature.

Mozilla has released new updates for its AI-powered Smart Window feature, currently in beta, which it developed to optimize the browsing experience. Taking user feedback into account, the company has introduced new tools that make it easier to organize information without interrupting the workflow within the browser.

Smart Window works as a separate window that allows users to interact with an AI assistant of their choice while browsing the browser. This feature enables processes such as comparing tabs, organizing information, and summarizing without leaving the browser.

New Features and Exa Collaboration

With Firefox’s new update, Smart Window has gained the ability to automatically group related tabs. This feature helps prevent tabs from becoming cluttered, especially during intensive research processes or planning stages.

Users can now close multiple tabs related to the same page with a single click thanks to automatic duplicate tab detection. Mozilla also announced a new partnership with the AI-powered search company Exa. This integration allows Smart Window to directly retrieve current web information and show the sources of the results without redirecting the user to a different search page.

Smart Window, with its improved natural language processing capabilities, makes it easier for users to find pages they’ve viewed in the past. For example, when searching for terms like “running shows I watched last week,” the system provides visual previews of the relevant pages, allowing users to quickly find the correct tab.

Future plans and accessibility

Mozilla continues to work on new features to be added to Smart Window in the future. Upcoming features include the ability to bring up past browsing sessions and group related tabs to resume work from where it left off.

The company is also working on a form-filling assistant to prevent users from having to repeatedly enter the same information when filling out online forms. Users still have full control over which tabs Smart Window can access.

The Smart Window feature is currently only available in English and in beta for Firefox users in the United States and Canada. Do you think these kinds of browser-based AI tools will change your internet browsing habits?
