Netflix has started offering users the ability to watch content in 4K resolution through its popular web browser, Chrome. This innovation brings the Ultra HD streaming experience, previously limited to Microsoft Edge and Safari, to a much wider audience.

However, simply having Chrome 117 or a newer version is not enough to take advantage of this feature. Netflix sets quite strict hardware and software requirements for high-quality streaming.

Hardware and Software Requirements

To receive 4K streaming via Chrome, Windows 11 operating system must be installed and kept up-to-date. Additionally, a stable internet connection of at least 15 Mbps is among the essential requirements for this high-resolution experience.

On the hardware side, users are expected to have a modern graphics card. For Nvidia, a GeForce GTX 1050 or newer GPU is required, while for AMD, a Radeon RX 400 series or newer GPU is necessary.

Regarding the processor, 7th generation Intel Core or AMD Ryzen and above models are supported. The display must support 4K 60Hz resolution and be fully compatible with the HDCP 2.2 DRM standard.

Limitations and User Experience

4K support via Chrome is currently limited to Windows PCs and Chromebooks. Mac users still have to use Safari or the Microsoft Edge browser on macOS for high-resolution content.

In addition, accessing 4K content requires a Netflix Premium subscription plan. There is no official 4K viewing option for Windows 10 users, indicating that hardware requirements also apply to the application itself.

Alternative browsers like Firefox or Brave cannot take advantage of this feature. Due to Digital Rights Management (DRM) restrictions, watching high-quality content on a PC still requires significant hardware compatibility and technical preparation.
