In our LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight review article, we examine the series’ renewed fighting mechanics, cinematic story and new open world experience set in Gotham.
Renewed Gameplay Dynamics:Fighting and gliding mechanics inspired by the Batman: Arkham series add a heavier, rhythmic and satisfying atmosphere to the game.
Deep and Original Storytelling:Starting from young Bruce Wayne’s training at the League of Shadows camp, the script pays great homage to the cinematic Batman oeuvre.
Collapsed Character Set:Instead of hundreds of identical characters, the depth of gameplay is increased by focusing on 7 main heroes with unique abilities.
A Gotham Experience Beyond the Classic Formula
LEGO games are generally fun productions that contain many collectible elements and stand out with their humorous structure. But after a while, these games start to feel like copies of each other. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight brings a breath of fresh air to the series at this point. Developed with the power of the Unreal Engine 5 engine, the production is clearly inspired by the mechanics of the iconic Batman: Arkham Knight game and live action cinemas.
is taking
The game stands out from the old LEGO games with its dark atmosphere and cinematic narrative. However, while doing this, it does not lose the feeling of bricks falling apart and that sincere LEGO humor. With this stable structure, the developer team manages to appeal to both adult Batman fans and LEGO lovers of all ages.
An Original Story Going Back to the Origins of Batman
From young Bruce Wayne to Gotham’s Guardian
The story of the game, contrary to the usual, begins with Bruce Wayne’s powerful training with the League of Shadows before becoming Batman. The process of the character’s transformation from an angry and lonely man into a symbol of anxiety and hope is conveyed without rushing. The story includes references to every period, from Christopher Nolan’s realistic style to the fun atmosphere of the 1966 Adam West era. These transitions between different tones do not disrupt the general structure of the play.

Classic Enemies and Detective Mechanics
Gotham City’s famous villains: Joker, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Bane and Ra’s al Ghul play important roles in the story. While some enemies are presented as a significant threat, others provide material for LEGO’s unique humor elements. Also, we don’t just fight in the game; Detective tasks such as crime scene investigations and solving hidden connections also enrich the experience in a way that is comparable to the Arkham games. The bonds established with Alfred, Gordon and other allies feed the emotional side of the story.
A Great Revolution in Gameplay: Arkham Inspirations
Improved Combat System and Vehicle Usage
In terms of fighting mechanics, the game leaves behind the logic of just pressing a single button as in the old games. Players can chain combos, fend off enemy raids, and deliver finishing blows using environmental elements. While gliding through the city feels quite fluid, high-speed chases with the Batmobile create a real sense of burden on the streets of Gotham. Getting lost in the city that offers a wide free world becomes fun. The Batcave serves as the main base of the game with its wide customization options and costume improvements.

Character-Focused Approach and Difficulty Level
This time, the developers are focusing on only 7 playable heroes instead of hundreds of dysfunctional characters. Batman, Jim Gordon, Catwoman, Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and Talia al Ghul come with their own skill sets. For example, while Catwoman acts differently in stealth sessions, Batgirl focuses entirely on hacking mechanics.

The “Dark Knight” difficulty mode, added for those who are tired of the very easy structure of the old games, offers more aggressive enemies, making it necessary to think strategically during the fight. Although some activities in the open world become repetitive after the main story of the game is over, the sense of discovery offered and the deep commitment to the Batman world make up for these shortcomings. The game offers an unforgettable experience by liberating a series stuck in its formulas.
