Huawei maintains its growth momentum on the HarmonyOS platform, which it developed independently of the Android operating system. According to current data shared by independent sources, the number of devices installed with HarmonyOS 6 has surpassed the 70 million mark.

Data published by Wonder Toolbox reveals that the HarmonyOS 6 operating system has reached approximately 70.1 million devices. This number indicates a significant increase in a short time compared to the 66 million number announced by Huawei Consumer Business Group President Yu Chengdong at the HDC 2026 event held on June 12.

Rapid growth in the HarmonyOS ecosystem

At the same event, Huawei also shared general growth data of the open source HarmonyOS ecosystem. According to the company’s data, the total HarmonyOS ecosystem, which includes phones, tablets, computers, wearable devices, smart home products, cars and IoT devices, has surpassed 1.3 billion devices.

The rise of HarmonyOS in recent years is considered a key module of Huawei’s strategy to create its own software ecosystem in the wake of US sanctions. The company moved away from the Android application infrastructure, especially with HarmonyOS NEXT, and accelerated the transition to an architecture it developed entirely.

The HarmonyOS 7 preview, introduced as part of HDC 2026, focuses on new generation technologies such as artificial intelligence, spy-based systems and spatial computing. The company had aimed to increase the total number of users of HarmonyOS 5 and HarmonyOS 6 to over 100 million by the end of the year in early 2026.

Rapid progress towards goals

Latest data shows that Huawei is approaching this 100 million target faster than planned. Although most of HarmonyOS’s growth currently comes from the Chinese market, Huawei aims to expand its operating system and application ecosystem in international markets as well.
