AMD Driver Error Silently Disables Smart Access Memory Feature

AMD Driver Error Silently Disables Smart Access Memory Feature

AMD’s new driver update disables the Smart Access Memory feature in Windows 10. Click for details and analysis procedures of this error that affects game performance.

AMD users faced a critical issue on the Windows 10 operating system after the recently released Adrenalin Edition 26.1.1 driver update. The driver flaw in question disables the Smart Access Memory (SAM) feature, which directly increases the performance of the graphics card, without the user’s knowledge. This situation causes significant performance losses in games, momentary lags, and the system becomes unstable and crashes.

This conflict, which occurs even on systems where the BIOS settings are correct and there are no hardware restrictions, is triggered by the incorrect detection of Radeon graphics units by Windows 10. AMD is actively conducting research to eliminate this misconception, which negatively affects users’ gaming experience.

  • AMD Adrenalin 26.1.1 driver causes a conflict that prevents the Smart Access Memory feature from working on Windows 10.
  • Users report that SAM boost is automatically turned off on the software side, even though the BIOS settings are full.
  • Driver errors cause performance degradation in games and deterioration of system stability.

Root Causes of the Problem Continue to Be Examined

Smart Access Memory is a critical technology that minimizes bottlenecks in games by allowing the CPU to directly access all of the GPU memory. However, with the last update, serious problems began to occur in the compatibility of Radeon cards with Windows 10.
Although many users try to uninstall their video card drivers in safe mode with the help of DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and make a clean image, the problem persists at the software layer.

Due to this error in the driver, game performance decreases significantly.

Users Are Trying to Create Workarounds

While an official patch is awaited from AMD, community members have developed some temporary ways to overcome the problem. Some users state that reconfiguring the variable refresh rate (VRR) or verifying the monitor refresh rate through the Radeon software partially alleviates the problem. On the other hand, it is said that restarting the system several times may help the drivers to load properly. However, these methods seem far from offering a permanent solution.

AMD, which previously released a quick hotfix for the “yellow exclamation” error experienced on RX 7000 series cards, is thought to be preparing a similar update for this new situation. The company’s software group has accelerated its work to minimize driver conflicts and stabilize Windows 10 integration.

AMD is expected to release a permanent driver update as soon as possible.

Updates Continue to Affect System Performance

Hardware change notifications that always appear on the Windows 10 operating system are considered an indicator of incompatibility between AMD Adrenalin software and Windows. When access to hardware resources is restricted, frame rate drops and unexpected crashes become inevitable, especially in high-graphics games. Users are advised to follow driver updates and avoid critical system changes until an official statement comes from the manufacturer.
