Half of Employees Are Afraid of Losing Their Job Due to Artificial Intelligence

A new report shows that half of employees are afraid of losing their jobs due to artificial intelligence and the use of artificial intelligence is rapidly increasing.

New data shared by GMB Union reveals that approximately half of employees in the United Kingdom fear losing their jobs due to the spread of artificial intelligence technologies. While 48 percent of the survey participants expressed this concern, 29 percent of the employees stated that artificial intelligence tools are already being used in their workplaces.

A 26 percent of employees state that artificial intelligence has begun to undertake their own missions, emphasizing that this situation triggers concerns. Not only job loss, but also the use of artificial intelligence for performance monitoring or supervision stands out as a new source of concern among employees.

The use of artificial intelligence in the business world is rapidly increasing

A different study by Stack Overflow shows that there is a 90 percent increase in the use of artificial intelligence tools on an annual basis. The 164 percent increase in daily usage rates indicates that the belief in these technologies and the frequency of use are increasing.

Even as employers begin to integrate autonomous AI spies, human control still continues to play a critical role. 63 percent of employees rarely or never allow AI spies to complete tasks without human supervision.

82 percent of companies are cautious about the accuracy of artificial intelligence, and 77 percent are cautious due to security and confidentiality risks. These technical hurdles now show that it may take years for the effects of artificial intelligence on the workforce to be fully felt.

How will the workforce be shaped in the future?

Data shared by the World Economic Forum (WEF) predicts that 92 million jobs may be displaced by 2030, but 170 million new job opportunities will be created. In this process, repositioning the roles of employees and increasing their competencies becomes a much more important agenda issue than job loss.

WEF states that in the future, artificial intelligence, information management, network systems, cyber security and general technological literacy will be among the most demanded skills. GMB Union, on the other hand, argues that companies should not act solely for profit, and that governments should make legal regulations to protect employees or guarantee training processes.

How do you think this rapid transformation in the world of technology will affect your business life?
