General Motors officially returned to the Turkish market in cooperation with TUROTO. Details about the prices and market strategy of GM, which started sales with 3 brands and 5 models.
General Motors (GM), the giant name of the automotive world, made a quick return to the Turkish market in cooperation with its official distributor TUROTO. According to the information shared by car journalist Taylan Özgür Lisan, the company met the Turkish consumer again with 3 different brands and 5 special model options.
Within the scope of the strategic partnership established with GM Europe, which manages the European distributor network, operations in Turkey will be carried out through TUROTO. The brand, which initially offered sales and service at 5 different points, aims to increase this capacity to 8 points in the short term and 10 points in the medium term. The fact that most of the first shipment has already been sold reveals the interest in the brand’s potential in the Turkish market.
Tax Burden Directly Affects Vehicle Prices
Turkey’s standardization step in customs tariffs for vehicles imported from non-EU and non-FTA countries has provided a valuable development for internal combustion vehicles of American origin. The total customs duty burden, which was previously around 60%, decreased to 35% with the regulation. However, despite this improvement, the sales prices of these luxury segment models in Turkey remain at quite high levels.
The prices are as follows:
Supply Chain and Stock Processes are Planned
The vehicles that General Motors brings to Türkiye first enter the European market and are then shipped to Türkiye. Although it is known that this situation extends the supply process, the distributor company states that they provide the necessary spare parts and vehicle stock. The fact that nearly 70% of the vehicles in the first stage have been sold shows that the brand has a loyal customer base despite the high price tags. Whether the model range will be expanded in the future will depend on market conditions.
The Future of the Market and Expectations Are Taking Shape
This comeback in the Turkish market has the potential to define competition in the automotive industry again. General Motors, which offers a new alternative especially for users in the premium segment, aims to reach more users as its sales network expands. The course of sales of these models within the framework of the economic conjuncture and tax policies will be closely followed by sector representatives.
