Apple continues to shape its long-term plans for the foldable phone series. According to information shared by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the company is working on a third-generation foldable iPhone model.

This new device is expected to be released as early as 2028. Apple’s foldable phone roadmap has expanded beyond current expectations by a year.

A New Era in the Foldable iPhone Series

It is stated that the third-generation foldable iPhone model will offer an increase in both internal and external screen sizes compared to previous versions. Although the exact screen sizes have not yet been shared, the first model is expected to come with a 7.8-inch internal and a 5.5-inch external screen.

The first foldable iPhone to be released this year is preparing to enter the technology world under the name iPhone Ultra. The device is expected to have an ultra-thin design and use Touch ID technology instead of Face ID.

In terms of technical specifications, it is stated that it will include new hardware such as the A20 chip and C2 modem. This model is expected to be sold with a price tag of around $2,000 or more, representing Apple’s new design philosophy.

Future Models and Development Process

The development process of the second-generation foldable iPhone model has already received official confirmation. Digital Chat Station, known for its leaks on Weibo, states that the iPhone Ultra 2 project will use the screen technology of the first model.

This second-generation device is planned to be introduced in the fall of 2027, along with the 20th-anniversary iPhone model. Apple thus aims to strengthen its presence in the foldable phone market with a timeline extending until 2028.
