The Interbank Card Center (BKM) shared card payment data for July 2026. According to the data released, a total of 2.0 billion card payment transactions amounting to 3.0 trillion TL took place in Turkey in July. The fact that 4 out of every 5 payments made in physical stores are recorded as contactless shows that the cashless society habit is gradually taking root.

Total Number of Cards Exceeds 476 Million

The number of active cards in Turkey increased by 4 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 476.2 million. While the upward trend in credit card ownership continues, a notable contraction is observed in prepaid card ownership.

Total made in July Of the 2,974.9 billion TL in payments, 2,541.8 billion TL was made via credit cards. While bank card spending reached 425.8 billion TL, a decrease is observed in prepaid card usage both in terms of amount and number of transactions.

Credit Card Spending:

2,541.8 billion TL with a 38% annual increase (1,181.3 million transactions)

Bank Card Spending: 425.8 billion TL with a 39% annual increase (783.5 million transactions)
Prepaid Card Spending: 7.3 billion TL with a 43% decrease (33.2 million transactions)
34% Increase in Online Card Purchases

The transaction volume in the e-commerce channel in July was higher than the previous year It grew by 34 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 908.9 billion TL. The total number of transactions carried out online increased by 11 percent to 258.7 million. Online spending constitutes 30 percent of the total card payment pie.

Contactless is Now the Standard in In-Store Shopping

Contactless transaction technology maintains its weight in physical retail. As of July 2026, the number of contactless payments reached 1,336.8 million, and the transaction volume increased by 44 percent to 1,015.3 billion TL. 80 percent of in-store card spending is completed directly through contactless terminals.

According to BKM data from July 2026, card payments reached 3 trillion TL; Four out of every five in-store transactions were carried out using contactless technology.
