24-Hour Waiting Period for Android App Installations: Here Are the Details

Google is rolling out a new Android security feature that imposes a 24-hour waiting period on the process of installing applications from unverified developers.

Google has begun rolling out a new app installation process for the Android operating system ahead of the developer verification process that will begin next month. This improved process aims to increase user security when installing apps from unverified developers.

The most notable feature of the system is the 24-hour waiting period that kicks in after permission is granted to install apps from unverified developers. This one-time restriction is designed to make users more cautious about security.

New Security Restrictions and Operation

To use this new process, users need to activate the setting that allows unverified developers within Developer Options. After enabling this setting, users will see a series of warnings, followed by the 24-hour waiting period.

After the aforementioned waiting period is complete, users can install applications from unverified sources. It’s worth noting that the settings can be kept active temporarily or indefinitely for seven days.

Google states that this new function is being rolled out gradually through the Android Developer Verifier application. It is emphasized that installation processes via ADB are not affected by these new restrictions.

Regional Launch and Global Rollout

The developer verification process will first be implemented in certain regions such as Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand on September 30th. This application will become available to all Android users worldwide next year.

Google states that the developer verification system is an important step to protect users. Developer options can be disabled by users after this advanced process is activated.

Do you think this 24-hour waiting period that Android imposes on the process of installing applications from unverified sources is a sufficient measure to ensure user security?
