A promising argument has emerged regarding GTA 6 on the console front. While recent details suggested the game aimed for 30 FPS on consoles, recent reports from reliable sources indicate that Rockstar Games is actively working on a 60 FPS performance mod.

Is the 30 FPS Limit Being Exceeded on Consoles?

Many technical details regarding the game’s development were revealed during the recent Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look presentation. Statements from Rockstar North co-president Rob Nelson indicated that the primary goal was 30 FPS stability. However, it appears the studio is pushing existing hardware to its limits to offer players higher frame rates.

According to information reported by Moore’s Law Is Dead and based on the Polish publication “Rock i Borys,” the development team is continuing optimization processes to offer two different graphics modes.

Sources close to CD Projekt RED indicate that 30 FPS (Quality) and 60 FPS (Performance) options, which will be left to the players’ preference, are under consideration. While it is not yet clear whether this mode will be ready on release day, it seems highly likely that it will be offered with an update in the future.

CPU Load and Ray Tracing Balance

Previously, technical analysis teams such as Digital Foundry had pointed out that the dense AI population, complex physics interactions, and heavy traffic flow in the streets of Vice City could cause a significant bottleneck for current console processors. It was predicted that the CPU load brought about by open-world dynamics would make it difficult to reach the 60 FPS barrier.

In contrast, new leaks suggest that Rockstar plans to balance the load on the processor by sacrificing visual detail and ray tracing effects. It is emphasized that, thanks to true scaling and dynamic resolution settings, 60 FPS fluidity could technically be achieved even on standard consoles.

Higher Expectations for PlayStation 5 Pro

While these optimization efforts continue for standard consoles, expectations are rising for the more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro model. It is stated that thanks to extra GPU power and an improved hardware architecture, the PS5 Pro could more easily achieve 60 FPS directly, and even in the worst-case scenario, offer a high frame rate display mode of 40 FPS (with 120 Hz VRR support).

Rockstar Games has not yet announced an official performance target; However, the studio’s history of pushing technical boundaries strengthens the potential for GTA 6 to deliver a smooth experience on consoles as well.
