Apple is continuing its preparations for camera-equipped AirPods models, which it has been working on for a long time. This product group, where visual intelligence technology is at the center, was initially planned for 2026 but was later postponed to 2027.

However, new information suggests that the first AirPods version with a camera may actually be available to users later this year. This development, which is included in the company’s internal roadmap, has created excitement in the technology world.

Two different models codenamed B790 and B798

Apple is working on two different variants, B798 and B790, within the scope of its camera-enabled AirPods project. While the model codenamed B798 is expected to be released in 2027, it is stated that the version codenamed B790 may be ready much earlier.

Discovered in iOS 27 beta 2 code by developer Sam Henri Gold, the B790 is quite advanced in Apple’s internal testing processes. The company’s development of multiple versions of the same product strengthens the possibility of the B790 model launching in September of this year.

Technical differences between the two models, or whether both will be released to the market, are not yet clear. However, the inclusion of the B790 in Apple’s new roadmap suggests that camera-equipped headphones may arrive sooner than expected.

Design and Technical Details

Previous reports indicate that camera-equipped AirPods models will have slightly longer bodies compared to the current AirPods Pro. This design change provides the necessary space for cameras to be placed inside the headphone body.

The devices are also expected to be equipped with an LED light that informs the user when information is being sent to the cloud system. This feature aims to provide transparency in privacy and data transfer processes.
