First sales figures shared by Alinea Analytics show that Marvel’s Wolverine is achieving success independently of the social media controversies. The game sold 1.9 million copies in its first three days of release, generating $130 million in revenue.

Of these sales, 1 million were digital pre-orders, while physical sales represented 22.9% of total revenue. This rate is quite impressive for a game released in 2026.

Sales Figures and Market Performance

According to Alinea Analytics, Marvel’s Wolverine surpassed Death Stranding 2’s performance of 1.8 million copies and $129 million in revenue over its entire PS5 lifecycle in just three days. The game ranks sixth in revenue among all PS5 games released in 2026.

The game had a faster start than almost all PS5 games released in the last three years. The only exception in this area was Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which sold twice as many copies as Marvel’s Wolverine.

Ghost of Yōtei, developed by Sucker Punch, remained the closest competitor, earning 6.3 percent less revenue than Marvel’s Wolverine in its first three days. Other PS5 exclusive games lag considerably behind these numbers.

Death Stranding 2 generated 60.3% less revenue, Astro Bot 73.3% less, and Stellar Blade 74.9% less. Rise of the Ronin saw an 80.3% decrease in sales, and Helldivers 2 a 85.5% decrease.

Social Media Perception and Gaming Experience

Marvel’s Wolverine received a Metacritic score of 77, making it Insomniac Games’ lowest-rated game in the last decade. Criticisms heavily focused on the game’s linearity, control mechanisms, and changes in visual identity.

However, there is a clear difference between the audience that purchased the game and the audience that is conducting the discussions on social media. Many players chose the game because of the Marvel brand and the developer’s past success.

Regional pricing data reveals striking differences. The game sold for $70 in the United States, is priced at $93.62 in the UK and $91.84 in the Eurozone.

Canadian players accessed the game for $64.30, 7.2% less than the US price. The US accounts for 53% of the total player base, followed by the UK at 7%, France at 5%, and Canada at 4%.

The expansion of the maps and the increased depth of the story in the second half of the game negate some of the criticisms from the first hour. Voice acting by names like Troy Baker, Krizia Bajos, and Liam McIntyre elevates the game’s narrative quality.

Following unsuccessful launches like Marathon and Saros, Marvel’s Wolverine takes on a significant role in Sony’s first-party game calendar. Do you think the social media criticism of Marvel’s Wolverine will affect the game’s long-term success?
