Blue Prince Review: Roguelite and Puzzle in One

Blue Prince Review: Roguelite and Puzzle in One

In our Blue Prince review, we discuss the game’s unique rogue-lite structure and story details, with rooms changing daily.

The world of independent games continues to surprise us in recent years, and Blue Prince, developed by Dogubomb and published by Raw Fury, appears as a production that fits this description.

This mysterious game, released in April 2025, combines roguelite elements, first-person exploration dynamics and mind-bending puzzles in a single pot.

In the play, he receives a gift from his deceased great-uncle, Herbert S., of the massive Mt. We bring to life the character of young Simon, who inherits the Holly mansion.

But there is only one condition to owning this legacy: finding the unknown 46th room at the heart of this mansion full of ever-changing rooms.

Blue Prince manages to be one of the most innovative puzzle adventures on the PC platform, with its structure that resets every new day and its game loop that instills the desire to explore again and again.

Mt. What Awaits You at Holly Mansion?

Blue Prince seems like an easy puzzle game at first glance. When you log in from the main menu, you find yourself at the entrance of a quiet, mysterious and huge house. But as you progress, you realize that the game is much more than just “open the doors and find the real password” logic.

The notes, items and hidden documents that Simon encounters while exploring this huge mansion open the doors to an incredible story going on in the background.

Details such as the great uncle’s past, blackmail letters, political intrigues of the period and even the unexplained disappearance of a local children’s book author gradually come to light.

The game blends story telling with environmental details so well that after a while you start playing not only to find the 46th room, but also to unravel the dark secrets in this family’s past.

The sense of discovery we feel in games such as Outer Wilds or What Remains of Edith Finch reaches a much more interactive dimension in the Blue Prince world.

Gameplay Dynamics and Room Selection System

The most crucial point of the game is definitely the “room selection”, that is, the drafting mechanic. Unlike classic exploration games, Mt. The Holly mansion does not have a fixed map.

You progress on a 9×5 sized draft in total, and each time you come to a closed door, the system offers you three different room options. You chart your own path by choosing the one that best suits your strategy among these rooms.

Rogue-lite Structure That Makes You Win Even When You Lose

The basic loop of the game is that the mansion resets at the end of each day. When entering a room, you need to use your limited power resources carefully. When you run out of energy or the day ends, you start everything from the beginning. However, this does not turn into an annoying repetition.

Because the permanent improvements made on the basic sketch of the mansion, the valuable items you acquire, and most importantly, the bits of information you have accumulated in your own mind, stay with you. A clue that seemed meaningless yesterday becomes, in today’s type of person, the key to a laboratory or a secret passage you have never been to before.

Mind-Breaking but Fair Puzzles

Blue Prince maintains a consistency in puzzle design that does not tire the player. The fact that there is no time limit in the game gives you the chance to easily examine the rooms and take notes of the details.

The developer group did not restrict the analysis of the puzzles to a single path. Just as you can perform complex mathematical calculations to open a closed door, you can also overcome obstacles by creatively using an ordinary item you find around.

In fact, it is recommended that you have a real paper and pencil with you while playing the game, as you will need your own notebook as you progress.

Graphics, Atmosphere and General Evaluation

Visually speaking, Blue Prince has a pretty sweet art design that combines cartoonish details with realistic textures.

With the stable performance offered by the Unity engine, the game offers a wonderful experience without overloading the visual hardware. The eye-friendly structure of the graphics prevents you from being distracted even during hours-long gaming sessions. Music and sound effects also support the eerie yet intriguing atmosphere of the mansion very well.

The interface, which works extremely smoothly with the keyboard and mouse duo on the PC side, does not restrict the player in any way. As a result, Blue Prince goes down in history as one of the most successful examples not only of this year, but of the puzzle and exploration genre in general.

If you like solving mysteries and learning something new with every try, Mt. The doors of the Holly mansion are waiting wide open for you. Inheriting Simon’s legacy and reaching that famous room at the end of this clever labyrinth promises an experience you will not forget for a long time.
