Battlefield 6 will be available for free to all players between August 18th and August 25th. During this one-week trial period, it will be possible to experience various multiplayer modes of the game.

Players will be able to participate in modes such as Conquest, Breakthrough, Escalation, Casual Breakthrough, and Top Gun: Carrier Strike. The efforts will take place on the Wake Island, Tsuru Reef, Cairo Bazaar, and Hagental Base maps.

This free trial version can be downloaded from Steam, Epic Games Store, or EA App on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. All in-game achievements and unlocks obtained during the trial period can be transferred to the full version of the game.

However, this free access period requires users to download REDSEC, the Battle Royale spin-off game for Battlefield 6. This file size, varying between 27 GB and 60 GB depending on the platform, is a significant prerequisite for those wishing to begin the trial.

Is it a strategic move or a technical necessity?

Some sources suggest that Electronic Arts is aiming to steer players towards the REDSEC mode with this mandatory download. Given REDSEC’s lack of expected interest, it’s thought that this system is being used to increase the player base.

Users on Reddit, however, argue that this theory is exaggerated and that the situation may stem from a technical necessity. Since the Top Gun mode is based on REDSEC maps, it’s assumed that the necessary game information should already be present on the system. Although EA hasn’t made an official statement on this matter, anyone who wants to try Battlefield 6 for free needs to download REDSEC first.
