AMD has launched the new Ryzen 7 449 and Ryzen 5 439 models, which do not include a built-in NPU (Neural Processing Unit), taking a different strategy in the AI-focused processor market. With these new members of the Gorgon series, the company is specifically targeting mainstream laptop users who do not need an AI accelerator.
At a time when Microsoft has set a 40 TOPS NPU power requirement for Copilot+ certification, AMD’s move offers a more accessible alternative to consumers who want to avoid high-cost AI PC hardware. These new processors aim to redefine price-performance stability by focusing on classic computing performance.
Gorgon Series Processors Offered with a Focus on Performance
The Ryzen 7 449 stands out with its 8-core structure and clock speed that can reach up to 5.0 GHz. Combining 4 Zen 5 and 4 Zen 5c cores, this processor is supported by 16 MB of L3 cache. On the graphics side, the Radeon 860M iGPU unit is offered to users with a clock speed of 2800 MHz.
This configuration ensures that devices exhibit efficient performance in both daily tasks and light graphics loads.

The Budget-Friendly Ryzen 5 439 Shows Differences
A more economical option, the Ryzen 5 439 has a 6-core architecture (3 Zen 5 + 3 Zen 5c). Offering a total of 8 MB of L3 cache, this model reaches a boost frequency of 4.6 GHz. Supported by the Radeon 840M graphics unit, the processor is positioned as a stable solution for entry-level and mid-range laptops.
It has been observed that these processors provide sufficient performance, especially for daily office work and multimedia consumption.
Market Positioning is Shifting
In an era dominated by AI branding, AMD’s move is seen as a highly strategic decision. These NPU-free chips have a total processing capacity of around 8 to 16 TOPS. Although fluctuations in end-user prices are expected due to difficulties in component supply chains, laptops containing these chips are expected to have a more competitive price tag compared to the Ryzen AI 400 series.
Consumers are turning to more affordable laptops that don’t require AI-focused hardware.
