Affordable Retro Handheld Console from Lenovo

Affordable Retro Handheld Console from Lenovo

Lenovo’s new retro game console G02 appeared on the sales lists with its affordable price and technical features. Here are all the details about the device.

Lenovo is preparing to expand its product range in the handheld console world. The company’s new model, G02, appeared on sales lists and the official data base in China without an official global launch.

This retro gaming-focused device appeals to the low-budget emulation market, unlike the high-end portable PCs in the Legion Go series. For now, the device is quietly taking its place in regional channels and online sales platforms.

Technical specifications and design details

On the hardware side, Lenovo G02 is powered by the Rockchip RK3326 chipset. This chip includes a quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A35 processor that can reach 1.5 GHz and a Mali-G31 MP2 graphics unit.

The device has 1 GB memory and 4 GB internal storage. Storage capacity can be increased up to 1 TB thanks to microSD card support.

On the screen side, an IPS panel with a size of 4.5 inches and a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels is preferred. This screen, which has a 4:3 aspect ratio, offers a natural viewing area for classic games.

The device runs on a Linux-based operating system rather than Android or Windows. Offering 64-bit platform support, the system can run more than 30 emulators.

In physical design, the vertical form factor attracts attention. The device, which comes in black, white and red color options, weighs 258 grams and measures 149 x 99 x 34 mm.

The device has physical control keys, shoulder buttons and RGB illuminated analog stick. The 4000 mAh capacity battery is charged via USB Type-C and promises 3 to 6 hours of gaming time.

Market position and pricing

The Lenovo G02 was designed to run classic console games like NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy rather than modern PC games. It is stated that the device offers sufficient performance in PlayStation 1 games, but reaches its limits on platforms such as Nintendo 64 or Dreamcast.

The device, listed on AliExpress with a price tag of approximately $63.56, is positioned in the affordable retro console segment. It is seen that the unit price drops to 40 dollars in bulk purchases made through Alibaba.

G02, which is thought to have a similar production infrastructure with Competitors such as Anbernic RG40XXV, distinguishes itself with its larger screen. It is not yet clear in which markets Lenovo will officially offer this model for sale.

How do you think this affordable retro game console from Lenovo will find its place in the handheld console market?
