A lawsuit was filed against Meta on the grounds that it used artificial intelligence in dismissals

Meta was sued in the United States on the grounds that it used artificial intelligence in its dismissal processes. While the company rejected the criticism, ethical debates flared up in the technology world.

Meta, the umbrella company of Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, has come to the fore with a new legal effort initiated by 26 former employees in the United States. In the case in question, the company is accused of using artificial intelligence systems instead of the common sense of managers in the process of making dismissal decisions.

Employees allege that Meta used algorithmic performance ranking tools and information tracking systems to identify employees to be fired. This development, which has a great impact in the technology world, once again brings into question the ethical implications of artificial intelligence on workforce management.

  • Meta is being sued for using artificial intelligence-based systems to score employees during dismissal processes.
  • The plaintiffs claim that the company determined those to be dismissed through a system called “Metamate” and various monitoring tools.
  • Meta management rejects the accusations, stating that workforce decisions are made entirely by people.

Meta Denies Allegations That It Uses Artificial Intelligence Systems

According to the lawsuit in the lawsuit document, it is argued that Meta used the in-house “Metamate” system, keyboard tracking software that monitors employee activities, and artificial intelligence-based performance calibration tools when creating the dismissal lists.

The plaintiff cluster argues that these systems automatically rank employees and bypass the objective evaluation process by managers.

The company firmly maintains that there is no random algorithm behind its dismissal decisions.

Company Management Emphasizes That Decisions Are People-Oriented

The commodity front rejects all the arguments directed against it, calling them “unfounded”. Company officials state that critical decisions such as workforce management and organizational changes are made by humans, not artificial intelligence.

This defense of Meta raises new questions about whether technology giants meet the expectation of transparency in their operational processes.

Layoff Processes Increase Tension in the Sector

Meta, which announced last month that it would part ways with approximately 8,000 employees, had downsized within the scope of the strategy defined by CEO Mark Zuckerberg as a “year of efficiency”. The lawsuit that follows these large-scale layoffs reinforces concerns about the role of artificial intelligence in corporate functioning. Industry experts state that similar cases could set a precedent for more technology companies in the future.

In a world where technology manages business processes, it remains legally unclear who is responsible for the decisions.

Do you think it is acceptable for artificial intelligence to take a role in making critical decisions such as dismissal, or should these processes remain entirely under human control? Share your opinions with us in the comments.
