The Cyber Security Directorate (SGB), responsible for protecting Turkey’s digital infrastructure, has initiated the process of establishing a new operational team to undertake missions in the defense of the cyber homeland. According to the announcement published in the Official Gazette, the institution will employ a total of 275 contract workers in 47 different areas of expertise.
The monthly salary offered to employees who will serve in operations based in Ankara and Istanbul reaches up to 350,000 TL with additional payments and allowances.
Groundbreaking Recruitment in the Public Sector: Competency Prioritized Over KPSS Exam
With this recruitment, the Cyber Security Directorate is moving beyond the classic employment models in the public sector. Seeking to recruit talented minds in the dynamic and globally competitive field of cybersecurity, the institution is removing the KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Examination) score as the primary determinant and turning it into a threshold.
In the evaluation process, the national and international success rankings of the universities from which graduated candidates, their graduation grade point averages (GPA), and their direct technical competencies carry much higher weight. This model aims to compete with the attractive rules offered by both the specialized field and technology companies abroad.
How is the Salary Scale Reaching 350 Thousand TL Calculated?
Considering the ceiling price for contract workers determined by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, payments up to 4.5 times the ceiling price can be made for certain critical technical situations within the SGB (Special Security Institution).
With the additional benefits and allowances offered, the monthly income of specialists reaches the 350 thousand TL threshold. The institution targets experts with direct field experience in strategic areas such as threat hunting, testing, and named IT and network security.
BTK Transfer and New Structure in Cybersecurity
The Cybersecurity Directorate started its activities as a special budget structure directly affiliated with the Presidency, with the Presidential Decree published in the past period and the Cybersecurity Law that came into force.
With the appointment of Ümit Önal, former CEO of Türk Telekom, to the chairmanship, the Cybersecurity Directorate accelerated its corporate transformation and also took over the critical powers of the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) regarding cybersecurity and internet domain names.
The newly hired team of 275 people will form the main force protecting Turkey’s digital frontiers in operation centers in Ankara and Istanbul. Candidates must complete their applications by September 11th.
