Xiaomi has entered the network storage market with its first product, the Xiaomi Smart Storage. This new Xiaomi network storage device stands out with its high-capacity storage options and integration with the smart home ecosystem.

Launched in China, the device aims to both meet storage needs and centralize in-home data management. Users can manage their information locally with the device’s comprehensive features.

Technical Specifications and Capacity

Xiaomi Smart Storage comes with WD Red Plus hard drives in the box. The entry-level 4TB model of the device includes two 2TB disks, while different options such as 8TB and 16TB are also offered.

Users can increase the total storage space up to 60TB by changing the disks in the future. The device, which has an aluminum body, uses an efficient fan system to prevent the disks from overheating.

On the hardware side, there is 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Connectivity options include a 2.5 GbE Ethernet port, a USB-A 3.0 input, and an HDMI 1.4 output.

Thanks to the HDMI output, the NAS device can be directly connected to televisions or monitors and play 4K resolution at 30Hz. This feature eliminates the need for an external player to watch media content.

Smart Home and Software Integration

Xiaomi Smart Storage works perfectly with phones running HyperOS 3.0 and above. The device, which automatically appears in the phone’s built-in document manager, can perform full backups.

It also allows for the backup of data related to applications such as WeChat. Acting as a local recording center for security cameras, the system supports up to four cameras.

Serving as a central hub for the Mi Home ecosystem, the device processes automation processes locally instead of in the cloud. This allows for faster responses to smart home commands.

On the software side, advanced media management features are also noteworthy. The photo application can automatically group images based on face and position information.

Users can quickly access specific photos by performing text-based searches. In image documents, the system automatically adds details such as movie posters and rating information using document names.

The device can be accessed remotely via dedicated applications on iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows. Xiaomi offers up to 40 Mbps of free bandwidth for remote access.

16 different user accounts can be created on the system. The device, which comes with a three-year warranty, is not yet known whether it will be available in markets outside of China.
