WhatsApp Plans to Expand Payment Feature to New Countries

WhatsApp Plans to Expand Payment Feature to New Countries

WhatsApp aims to expand its services globally with its new payment section developed for the iOS application. Here are the new features and details.

WhatsApp is preparing to expand its financial services to a wider geographical area with a new payment section developed on its iOS application. This new interface, which is under development, will allow users to make payments directly to individuals within the application and store their card information securely.

This feature, which is not yet available to beta users, supports WhatsApp’s goal of establishing a global payment network by going beyond its current markets of India, Brazil, Singapore, and Mexico. Initial investigations indicate that the application is working on a broad list of countries supporting billing addresses, including regions such as Europe and Australia.

  • WhatsApp is designing a dedicated payment section for its iOS application where card information and billing details can be managed.
  • The country list included in the application code suggests that the service may expand to new regions such as Europe and Australia in the future.
  • The new payment infrastructure will allow users to save their credit and debit. cards, speeding up their shopping processes.

WhatsApp Payment System Aims for Global Expansion

Currently active only in a limited number of countries, the payment features work in integration with local banking systems and business partners. This new update from WhatsApp is considered a concrete step towards making the application’s technical infrastructure a more global payment system.

WhatsApp’s goal of expanding its payment infrastructure globally indicates that the application will transform from a mere messaging tool into a fully-fledged financial ecosystem.

New Payment Section to Improve User Experience

The interface under development consists of three different sections for structuring payments. At the top, there is an area where users can directly send money by selecting a person. In addition, users will have the opportunity to save their credit or debit cards for faster processing in future purchases. The form requests expiration date, CVV code, and detailed billing address information.

The system will also allow users to store delivery information such as email, phone number, and shipping address. Users will be able to view, download, or permanently delete all saved payment information in the future.

Country Options Point to Future Markets

It is noteworthy that the country selector section in the tested interface includes countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Australia, and Canada. This proves that WhatsApp is preparing its payment infrastructure for regions outside of its current markets. Although no official expansion plan has been announced yet, the preparation of the technical infrastructure in this way is quite significant.

Even though the technical preparations are complete, the official approvals that must be obtained from local regulators for each new market will determine the speed of the process.

New Leadership with Financial Background Could Influence Strategy

The fact that WhatsApp’s new president, Kunal Shah, is the founder of CRED, one of India’s leading fintech companies, strengthens the expectation that financial products may be one of the platform’s main focuses in the future. Although no official statement has been made yet, this change in the leadership is seen as a valuable signal that financially focused projects may gain momentum.
