WhatsApp is revamping its Media Viewer Interface for Android

WhatsApp is revamping its Media Viewer Interface for Android

WhatsApp is renewing the media viewer interface for Android. Details about replying without leaving full screen mode and expanded reaction options.

WhatsApp is making a comprehensive design change to its media viewer interface to improve user experience on the Android platform. This new feature, which began testing with WhatsApp beta version 2.26.30.3, allows users to interact with photos and images much more effectively without leaving full-screen mode.

The old interface, which previously offered limited reaction and response options, is being replaced by a comprehensive response bar integrated directly below the media screen. This development provides users, especially those who frequently share media, with the ability to respond quickly without interrupting the chat stream.

  • WhatsApp is updating the media viewer with a new bar that allows users to respond in full-screen mode.
  • The new interface allows users to send any type of message, voice note, or attachment directly from the media screen.
  • The reaction tray, which includes all six default emojis, makes it easier for users to react quickly.
  • The update is currently in beta and will be rolled out to a wider user base in the coming weeks.

Media Viewer Completely Redesigned

Following the introduction of its first reaction and reply shortcuts in 2024, WhatsApp is taking the media viewer interface a step further, making it more functional.

The simple buttons found in the old version have been replaced by a full-fledged bar that perfectly mirrors the chat screen experience. This allows users to instantly add voice notes or share photos to a media document they are viewing.

Users no longer have to return to the chat screen while viewing media documents.

Reaction Options Become More Diverse

The reaction process is also faster with the new interface design. Previously limited to only one quick reaction emoji, the screen now offers a full reaction tray with six different default emojis.

In addition, the entire emoji keyboard can be accessed by pressing the plus (+) button. This integration aims to allow users to use the media viewer as freely as a chat window.

Chat Bar Experience Moves to Media Screen

The new reply bar, located at the bottom of the media viewer, includes all the functions of the standard chat interface. Users can send text messages, media documents, or voice recordings directly from this area.

This interface change reduces navigation within the application, making users’ digital interactions much smoother.

The new design makes media interactions as fast and practical as a standard chat stream.

Update Rollout is Gradually

These innovations are currently only available to Android beta users. Users who have joined the beta program via the Google Play Store can test the new interface by installing the update on their devices.

While WhatsApp has not shared a definite date for when this feature will be available to the general user base, a gradual rollout is expected in the coming weeks.
