WhatsApp is testing new Liquid Glass updates for iOS. The drawing editor and image player now have a much more modern and transparent look.
WhatsApp continues to expand its Liquid Glass design language to modernize the app interface for iPhone users. With a new update currently in development, the drawing editor and image player will fully adopt the Liquid Glass aesthetic before iOS 27.
The company aims to increase visual consistency between different parts of the application, and with this transition, it intends to bring the entire user interface to a transparent and modern look. These new features, currently not in beta, are part of WhatsApp’s design consistency strategy for the iOS platform and are expected to be rolled out to all users in the coming period.
Drawing Editor Gets a New Look
WhatsApp is redesigning the buttons on the drawing editor to make photo and image editing processes more stylish. The classic elements currently used will be replaced by a translucent, glass-like look in the style of Liquid Glass. This change aims to offer users a more contemporary user experience when editing their content.
Editing tools are being made fully consistent with the overall visual language of the application.
Video Player Starts to Look More Modern
The video player within the application is another part that has benefited from this design update. The progress bar at the top of the images is being restructured with the Liquid Glass aesthetic. This allows users to encounter a more integrated and aesthetically pleasing interface while watching images. These small touches are considered a reflection of WhatsApp’s vision to optimize the user experience.
Design Transition Nearing Completion
WhatsApp had previously largely completed the Liquid Glass transition in key areas such as the chat list, updates tab, and chat interface. The work on the drawing editor and video player constitutes the final stages of this comprehensive design project. The company aims to increase user loyalty by using a single design language across all platforms.
Apple’s new iOS 27 version is raising the bar for app design standards.
Ensuring Consistency Across All Platforms
Not only iPhone, but also iPad and Mac applications have begun to adopt the exact Liquid Glass design language. WhatsApp is standardizing the cross-device experience, offering a seamless visual transition for users in the Apple ecosystem. This strategy ensures that the application remains fully compatible with future iOS updates.
