WhatsApp Gets Apple iMessage Feature

WhatsApp Gets Apple iMessage Feature

WhatsApp is working on the feature of reacting to notifications with both static and animated stickers with the Android 2.26.20.5 beta update.

WhatsApp is working on a revolutionary update that will make user interactions much more fun and individual. WhatsApp beta 2.26.20.5 update for Android, released through the Google Play Beta Program, shows that the platform will completely change the reaction reactions feature, which has been limited to standard emojis for a long time.

According to the leaked information, the well-known messaging application is now preparing an infrastructure that will allow users to react to incoming notifications not only with emojis but also with special images in their sticker libraries. This new feature, which aims to convey emotional words, jokes or instant reactions appropriate to the context in a much more dynamic way, aims to take the connection language on the platform to a completely different dimension.

Here are the most important details highlighted with the WhatsApp beta 2.26.20.5 update for Android:

  • Reacting with Stickers:Users can leave instant reactions to incoming notifications not only with standard emojis, but also with stickers they choose directly from their own sticker libraries.

  • Enriched Word Options:The new system supports both fixed (static) and animated (animated) stickers, making the reactions in the chat much more fun and impressive.

  • Simultaneous Use:Thanks to the infrastructure being developed, both emoji and sticker images can be added to a single message at the same time, which allows even complex feelings to be conveyed easily.

Boundaries Disappear in Message Reactions

WhatsApp has so far relied solely on standard emoji sets in its notification reactions feature, which it introduced in 2022 and expanded over time. Although thousands of different emoji options are offered, sometimes emojis may not be enough to summarize a situation or fully respond to a joke.

The latest beta version released for Android completely eliminates this limitation, paving the way for users to express themselves much more freely.

With the new feature, a new integration is added to the reaction menu that opens when a message is pressed for a long time. Users can directly access their favorite sticker packs through this menu.

Thus, a funny image, a well-known internet meme or a personalized sticker can be attached to the notification as a reaction symbol within seconds.

A Visual Feast with Static and Animated Stickers

WhatsApp engineers keep the technical infrastructure very strong so that this new feature is not limited to simple visuals. According to leaks, the new notification system fully supports both standard fixed stickers and animated stickers, which are one of the most popular communication tools of the last period.

When an animated sticker is selected as a reaction, it comes to life as a small, dynamic animation right below the notification.

This aims to visibly increase the interaction, especially in group chats. Dynamic reactions to jokes in groups of friends or business conversations are elegantly displayed directly under the relevant message, without interrupting the flow of conversation or creating pollution on the chat screen with large media documents.

Hybrid Reaction System and Future Plans

One of the most striking aspects of this new system being developed is the hybrid structure it offers. According to the discovered code blocks, both classic emojis and new generation sticker reactions can be listed under a message at the same time.

In other words, while a user receives a “heart” emoji in the message he or she shares, on the other hand, he or she can see the reflection of an animated sticker sent by his or her friend. In this way, the well-known messaging application incorporates a brand new experience into the ecosystem without disrupting user habits.

The feature of reacting to messages with stickers, which is currently in the testing phase and still under development, is not yet available to all beta users.

After completing interface optimizations and performance improvements, WhatsApp plans to offer this feature to beta users first, and then to all Android and iOS users worldwide, with gradual distribution. This breakthrough of the platform enables it to gain a very valuable advantage over its Competitors focused on user experience.
