WhatsApp is adding media previews for photos, images, and stickers to the Android chat list. Now you can see the content without opening the chats.
WhatsApp has started testing a revolutionary update to the chat list to improve the user experience on the Android platform. With the latest beta version, 2.26.32.11, a new media preview feature has been introduced, allowing users to see content without opening the chat.
Now, photos, images, and stickers can be displayed as small thumbnails in the last message position in the chat list. This innovation allows users to instantly identify the content of an incoming message without needing to open the chat. Currently available to a limited number of beta testers, this feature will be rolled out to a wider audience in the coming weeks.
Chat List Becoming More Functional
WhatsApp is constantly updating the chat list to help users make the most of their time on the app. The previously announced draft messages feature made it easier to keep track of unfinished messages. Now, the company is taking the content preview experience to the next level. While the current version only displays text previews or simple labels like “Photo” or “Video,” the new update adds a small image representing the content next to these labels.
Users can now instantly understand the type and nature of incoming content directly from the chat list.
Media Previews Save Time
These small images offered for photos, images, and stickers are designed to fit the existing order in the chat list. Since the images are quite compact, they don’t cause any clutter in the application interface. This feature saves a lot of time, especially for users who want to understand the urgency of incoming content in busy chat groups. You will no longer have to open and exit the chat to understand what a photo or image is.
Stickers Also Get Preview Support
WhatsApp has also included stickers in this update, not just photos and images. Sent custom stickers can now be seen in a small box in the chat list. This allows you to see stickers sent by your friends or groups directly in the list without having to enter the chat itself. The notification label remains in place, clearly indicating that the content is a sticker.
Update Rolling Out Gradually
The new media preview feature is currently limited to the most recent WhatsApp beta version released on the Google Play Store. As always, WhatsApp rolls out these major features gradually. If you are enrolled in the beta program and don’t see this feature yet, you should check for upcoming updates. A general release date for all users has not yet been announced by the company.
