WhatsApp Announces Incognito Chat Feature for Meta AI

WhatsApp Announces Incognito Chat Feature for Meta AI

Mark Zuckerberg announced the Meta AI Incognito Chat mode for WhatsApp. Conversations are never recorded and remain completely confidential.

Meta takes privacy standards to the highest level in communication with artificial intelligence via WhatsApp. Mark Zuckerberg officially announces the new feature called “Incognito Chat” developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs.

Thanks to this feature, users have a completely private experience where their conversations with Meta AI are not recorded in any way and cannot be accessed by anyone, including Meta. With this step, the company claims to offer the world’s first truly private artificial intelligence experience that does not hide data in any way.

Data Not Recorded and No Logs Kept

Meta has been working seriously for a long time on the security of sensitive information that users share with artificial intelligence assistants. The “Private Processing” architecture, which was included in the WhatsApp ecosystem last year, forms the basis of this new privacy mode. This technology allows artificial intelligence features to take action while running on WhatsApp without revealing message content to Meta or any third party.

The system processes data in a completely closed and secure cloud environment. Message data is kept confidential both during transmission and calculation phases. As soon as the artificial intelligence completes the task given to it (for example, writing or summarizing a text), the system does not store this data and deletes it within seconds. Thus, users do not have to worry about their data being stored on a server for “educational purposes” while benefiting from the power of artificial intelligence even in their most private conversations.

Many chatbots and AI platforms on the market analyze or store user input to improve user experience or optimize future responses. Although some platforms offer incognito mode options, it is known that even in these modes, prompts or outputs are logged for a short time in the background.

Mark Zuckerberg emphasizes that the Incognito Chat feature is a first at this point. In the new mode, the chat history disappears completely as soon as the conversation window is closed. Meta AI keeps no logs of any conversations made in this mode and does not use this data to train its own models.

Security Proven by Independent Audits

Meta is not content with just its own statements and is working with independent security companies to prove the reliability of this technology it offers. NCC Group and Trail of Bits, two of the world’s leading auditing organizations, examined Meta’s Custom Processing architecture in depth.

The prepared reports confirm that Meta completely restricts access to messages using the “Trusted Execution Environment” (TEE). These reports confirm that secret conversations with Meta AI are indeed carried out with confidentiality close to end-to-end encryption, as promised.

Artificial Intelligence Features Available in WhatsApp

WhatsApp has actually been offering artificial intelligence features with its Custom Processing infrastructure for a while. For example, Writing Assist, which helps users improve their messages, and Chat Summarization, which helps users quickly understand long conversations, work on this secure infrastructure.

However, Incognito Chat takes this technology one step further and puts bilateral dialogues directly with the chat bot under this protection shield.

When Will Incognito Chat Come?

WhatsApp is gradually rolling out its Incognito Chat feature for Android and iOS users. This feature, which is compatible with version 26.18.10.71 on iOS and current versions on Android, may take a few weeks to reach all accounts.

Although the activation process may vary depending on regional differences and account types, it is quite likely that you will see the new privacy mode when you tap on WhatsApp’s artificial intelligence icon in the coming days.
