WhatsApp is making a significant design change to the bottom navigation bar to improve user experience on the Android platform. Having recently begun restructuring the navigation menu within the app, the company is now testing removing text labels to give this bar a more minimalist look.

This new configuration, discovered in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.39.10, is an extension of the previously announced floating and rounded corner design. Currently under development and not yet publicly available, this feature shows that WhatsApp aims to bring the simplicity of its iOS interface to Android users.

  • WhatsApp plans to make the bottom navigation bar in its Android application more minimalist by removing text labels.
  • The redesigned bar offers an aesthetic similar to the iOS interface with its floating structure and rounded corners.
  • The new interface design is currently in the development stage and has not yet been offered even to beta users.

WhatsApp Aims to Adopt a More Minimalist Approach to Design

The popular messaging application continues to make fundamental changes to its interface to allow users to move more smoothly within the application.

First introduced with beta update 2.26.38.10, the new bottom navigation bar was separated from the main interface and given a modern look. Now, with version 2.26.39.10, a new configuration is being tested where the text labels under the icons have been completely removed.

Simplified Design Improves User Experience

Removing the text labels makes the navigation bar look cleaner and more organized. Since WhatsApp’s icons are quite distinctive, users can quickly understand which tab each icon represents.

In addition, in this new version, the gaps between the screen edges and the bar are reduced, making the bar look wider and more modern. This change aims to reduce the overall visual clutter of the application and provide a more focused user experience.

Final Design May Change

The company is constantly testing different variations to understand how users use the application. Therefore, it is not yet certain whether the label-free design currently seen is the final version.

The WhatsApp development team may bring back text labels or make other fine-tuning adjustments to the interface before the official release. This process continues to evolve based on user feedback and internal testing results.

Users Awaiting Future Updates

This feature, currently under development, is not yet included in the general stable version of the application. WhatsApp has not yet announced an official date for when the new navigation design will be released to all users.

However, these dynamic changes during the development phase clearly indicate that the application will have a more modern look on the Android platform in the near future. We will continue to closely follow this process and share developments with you.

Do you think removing text labels from the navigation bar would make WhatsApp easier to use, or would keeping the labels be sufficient? Don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
