Apple’s new 14-inch MacBook Pro model with the M6 ​​chip comes with hardware performance increases while maintaining the current design. Here are all the details.

Apple is preparing to release not only OLED-screened MacBook Pro models this fall, but also a new 14-inch MacBook Pro model powered by the M6 ​​chip. This entry-level device, known by the codename J804, will meet users while maintaining the current design language.

While the company is saving major innovations such as OLED panels and touchscreen support for high-end devices, it is opting for a familiar chassis structure in this model. The new 14-inch MacBook Pro continues to use the miniLED display, six-speaker sound system, and port layout used in the current M5 model, maintaining its starting price of $1,999.

Hardware Improvements Coming with the M6 ​​Chip

According to reports from July 2026, the M6 ​​chip offers 200 GB/s memory bandwidth, surpassing the 153 GB/s of the M5 model. Apple supports this increase with a new memory architecture and a Neural Engine unit that has been upgraded from 10 to 12 cores.

Tests in June 2026 show that the standard M6 chip has 12 GPU cores, which means two extra graphics cores compared to the M5. These hardware upgrades promise higher efficiency and speed, especially in Apple Intelligence and Siri-based tasks.

Leaks in February 2026 indicate that the M6 ​​chip will be manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm N2 production process. This technology allows the device to operate faster, generate less heat, and optimize power consumption thanks to a smaller chip die.

Bad News for Those Expecting a Design Change

The M6 ​​MacBook Pro continues to use the chassis design introduced in 2021 and used ever since. Apple’s product identifiers clarify that this model, coded J804, will maintain the current platform design, while the higher-end models coded K114 and K116 will switch to a new chassis structure.

There is no random trace of a new high-end model using the current design in macOS Tahoe previews. This proves that Apple separates its entry-level and professional models with completely different hardware and design strategies.

While the M6-based 14-inch MacBook Pro offers a performance-oriented speed increase, it offers a limited option for users expecting a design innovation. Rumors from July 2026 suggest that this model may have a short lifespan and that the K104 model with the M7 chip will bring a more extensive design change.

The high-end K114 and K116 models will come with much more radical innovations, including OLED panels and touch screens.
