Warning from Samsung Türkiye: Raise is at the Door

Murat Azdemir from Samsung Türkiye stated that they expect a 25 percent price increase in smartphones and tablets due to the increase in semiconductor costs.

Samsung Türkiye Mobile Business Unit Vice President Murat Azdemir made important evaluations about the smartphone and tablet market in a technology program he attended. Azdemir stated that the rapid increase in semiconductor costs is directly reflected in product prices.

Stating that the difficulties and cost increases in semiconductor supply are expected to continue for the next 1 to 1.5 years, Azdemir emphasized that the analyzes made on global indices reveal the pressure on prices. It is anticipated that this situation will bring about new price regulations for consumers.

Main reasons and expectations for price increases

Murat Azdemir stated that semiconductor costs increased by 9 to 9.5 times last week. Price fluctuations in these components, which make up approximately 20 percent to 25 percent of the cost of an average smartphone, make it difficult for manufacturers to set forward pricing.

Stating that they observed a 25 percent price change in dollar terms between last year and this year, Azdemir predicts that this trend will continue. He reminds that in Türkiye’s case, in addition to these global increases, factors such as logistics costs and exchange rate differences also come into play. When these factors come together, it is predicted that there may be a new price increase of 20 percent to 25 percent in smartphones and tablets.

The growth trend continues in the Turkish market

Although there will be a cooling in the global market in 2025 due to factors such as inflation and interest rates, it is stated that growth continues through developing countries. Türkiye’s smartphone market managed to close last year with a growth rate of 7 percent.

Last year, approximately 12 million mobile phones and around 2 million tablets were sold in Türkiye. Stating that there has been a 10 percent growth in the tablet market, Azdemir states that consumers’ interest in tablets has increased.

In 2026, the expectation of growth of 7 percent in the smartphone market and 10 percent in the tablet market is maintained.

Emphasizing that the market has cooled in some regions due to regional developments, but the demand has not disappeared but has been postponed, Azdemir maintains his optimism about the general outlook of the sector.

So, what do you think about these possible increases in smartphone and tablet prices?
