Independent software developer Vidit Bhargava has developed an app called Duo-Man for Apple’s highly anticipated foldable device, the iPhone Duo, offering a nostalgic experience. Introduced at the Bitrig hackathon in San Francisco and receiving great interest, this app uses the iPhone Duo’s hinged structure to transform the device into a classic cassette player Walkman.
Users can select a cassette via the 7.6-inch internal screen and, when they close the device, experience the iconic music experience of the 80s in the digital world. The application in question, along with Apple Music and local file support, is preparing to meet users in the upcoming period.

Designed by Vidit Bhargava, Duo-Man not only offers the user an interface but also appeals to the auditory senses. In an interview with TechCrunch, the developer stated that he meticulously recorded the mechanical button clicks and background static sounds taken from a real Sony Walkman device to make the application feel authentic. These details, combined with the physical closing motion of the foldable screen, create a highly immersive retro experience for users.
The project, which won second place in the Bitrig hackathon, also generated significant buzz on social media platforms. The promotional image shared via X received over 2.1 million views, increasing the interest of nostalgia enthusiasts in the iPhone Duo.
User Experience Continues to Be Improved
Due to the intense interest, Bhargava decided to turn the project into a fully-fledged commercial application and is expanding the software’s feature set. With upcoming updates, a battery-saving mode that allows users to manually rewind cassette tapes using Apple Pencil will be added to the system. Additionally, depending on popularity, Spotify integration is expected to be added to the application roadmap.
Apple has announced that pre-orders for the iPhone Duo will begin on Friday, October 16th, and the devices will be available for general sale starting October 23rd. While the official release date for the Duo-Man app hasn’t been shared yet, it’s expected to be available alongside the device’s launch.
