Tokat Photographer’s Award Crisis Has a Happy Ending

Tokat Photographer’s Award Crisis Has a Happy Ending

The award that amateur photographer Mehmet Emin Coruş from Tokat won in the international competition was delivered to him after a misunderstanding at the customs.

Mehmet Emin Coruş, who works as a bagel and pastry master in a bakery in Tokat, came second in the world in the International XMAGE Photography Competition held last year. Coruş, who stood out among 725 thousand applications from 170 countries with her photograph depicting the bond of motherhood, could not attend the award ceremony in Paris due to visa problems.

Coruş contacted the company after he did not receive the plaque and certificate sent by the competition organization. The photographer, who was informed that the award was destroyed at customs as a result of a faulty translation of the English e-mail sent by the company, announced the situation to the public.

Misunderstanding in customs process resolved

Following the news, the Ministry of Commerce quickly intervened in the matter. As a result of the investigations, it was determined that the award was not destroyed, it entered Türkiye in February and the classification process at customs was continuing.

Provincial Director of Trade Ali Osman Sakar, Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. He stated that they are following the process closely with the instructions of Ömer Bolat. Sakar stated that the delivery process of the award was accelerated by the ministry’s initiatives and was delivered to Mehmet Emin Coruş.

Mehmet Emin Coruş explained that the situation was entirely due to a translation error. Stating that he encountered a wrong word when he translated the English text into Turkish, Coruş stated that he felt a great relief when he learned that his award was waiting at customs.

Award ceremony and customs process

Stating that he was proud to represent Türkiye in the international arena, Coruş said that he was pleased to receive his award with the intervention of the ministry. Mehmet Emin CoruşHe emphasized that his award was not destroyed at customs and that the process was meticulously managed by the ministry.

This process once again revealed the complexity of customs processes for international shipments and the misunderstandings that can cause translation errors. Ministry officials expressed their satisfaction that the award was safely delivered to its owner.

Mehmet Emin Coruş ended the process by thanking the customs officials and ministry teams. Well, in your opinion, what arrangements can be made to ensure faster customs processes for international awards?
