The person who leaked the GTA 6 disappeared after making a $250,000 CYBERLEEK cryptocurrency heist before Rockstar’s official announcement.
The person who leaked GTA 6 made a significant financial breakthrough just before Rockstar Games’ official announcement. This person made approximately $250,000 through their self-created memecoin, CYBERLEEK, and then left the system.
The nine-day Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leaks began with a manifesto against digital pre-orders. The leaker followed a strategy of encouraging investors to buy tokens every time they shared new images.
Details of the Crypto Scam
The Solana-based CYBERLEEK token was launched around August 15th and reached a large trading volume with the start of the leaks. The token peaked on August 23rd, reaching approximately $0.0344.
The party that carried out the leaks increased its profit by taking a share from each transaction as a liquidity provider. This profit was estimated to be around $250,000 in total, was obtained directly from the transaction prices of investors.
270 million tokens were burned during the leak campaign to build trust. This attack is considered a planned strategy to keep investors in the pool and continue collecting transaction prices.
Hours before Rockstar’s announcement on Netflix on Thursday, all assets were transferred to four different wallets. Some of these assets were sent to the KuCoin exchange, while others were cashed out via CCE.Cash, an anonymous exchange service.
Legal Process and the End of Leaks
Take-Two sent DMCA subpoenas to Microsoft and Discord on August 20th with the aim of identifying the person responsible for the leaks. A similar legal request was also sent to the X platform.
Although the KuCoin exchange puts its users through identity verification processes, it is in a protected position against legal sanctions due to its Seychelles-based location. The exchange withdrew from the US market last year and reached a $297 million settlement with the Department of Justice.
The last leak was a four-minute clip shared on August 26th containing the prologue of the main character, Lucia. Following this clip, no further leaks occurred, and the token price dropped to $0.002725.
Following the leaks, an invalid ISO document, allegedly 113 GB in size, also circulated on the internet. It is stated that this document contains malicious software and users should be careful.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on November 19th and continues to be eagerly awaited in the gaming world. What are your thoughts on the impact of these kinds of leaks on game development processes and the community?
