Take-Two Interactive officially terminated the GTA 5 Android port project, which used leaked source code, by sending a cease and desist letter.
The dream of running GTA 5 locally on Android has officially ended with the intervention of Take-Two Interactive. The long-awaited unofficial GTA V Android port project, led by Paralympics Productions, has been halted following a cease-and-desist notice from the company. Project leader Mojso announced that all development activities will cease by October 2026 and that an optimized version of the game for mobile devices will never be released. This development completely eliminated any hope of the game running locally on both Android and Nintendo Switch.
Why was the Development Process Stopped?
Paralympics Productions had been working for a long time to adapt the GTA V game to the ARM architecture. However, strong suspicions arose that the project was based on the use of leaked source code belonging to Take-Two Interactive. The company’s lawyers took swift action to protect intellectual property rights, legally restricting all activities of the development team. In a farewell message, the developers expressed their gratitude for Take-Two’s stance during this process and apologized for not being able to meet fans’ expectations.
What This Decision Means for the Mobile Gaming World
This decision once again highlighted the challenges faced by those trying to run AAA-quality games locally on portable platforms. A local GTA V Android version aimed to take full advantage of device hardware; but with the project banned, users were forced to rely on more indirect systems to enjoy the game. The emulation layers currently available to players are far from achieving the level of optimization that a local port could offer.
Alternative Methods Fail to Satisfy Users
In the absence of an official port, the only way for Android users to play GTA V remains through cloud gaming services or third-party emulation software. However, these methods often fail to offer a completely new experience due to the need for high internet speeds or hardware limitations. The cancellation of the development team’s planned work for Nintendo Switch, also under a cease and desist letter, once again proves how strict Take-Two is against all attempts outside of its own platforms.
