Nothing announced that it has ended the software support for its first smartphone, Phone (1), with the July 2026 update. Details about the device’s software life and beyond are here.
Nothing announced that it has officially terminated the software support for the Nothing Phone (1) model, its first smartphone released in 2022. With the last update published in July 2026, the life cycle of the device was completed. The company successfully fulfilled its initial promise of three major Android version updates and four years of security patches.
The device, which came out of the box with the Android 12 operating system, ended its software journey with the Android 15 update it received at the beginning of 2025. Nothing officials stated that this model is the cornerstone that shapes the brand’s software ideology and emphasized that the device is still at a high usability level.
Nothing Phone (1) will remain the core platform from which the brand’s software story began.
Why Is Nothing Ending Software Support?
In the technology world, the software life of smartphones is determined by the support policies offered by brands. Nothing introduced the minimalist design language and customized Android experience to users with the Phone (1) model. This model, which stands out with innovative features such as the Glyph interface, represented the company’s software vision. However, after a four-year period, stopping software updates for the sake of efficient use of hardware resources stands out as a standard procedure.
In the statement made by the company, it was stated that the device will no longer be included in an active update calendar. Although this means that users will no longer be able to access new operating system features, it is stated that the device will continue to perform its daily functions. Following this decision, Nothing announced that it will transfer its resources to the development and optimization of newer models.
Users Are Turning to New Alternatives
The search for a current option for Nothing Phone (1) owners now seems inevitable. The company offers alternatives to its users with new devices, especially the Phone (4a) Pro, one of the successful models of 2026. With the increase in competition in the market, users prefer to switch to new generation devices with newer processors and longer service life.
The process of switching from old devices to new models allows users to benefit from current security standards.
While Nothing continues to offer new products in different segments in order to expand its market share, it also sees its old models as touchstones in terms of aesthetics and functionality. Even though its software support is over, Phone (1) continues to be a collectible device with its design. Users can continue to experience new innovations in the Nothing ecosystem by choosing the brand’s newest devices.
