The eagerly awaited new player in the mobile processor market, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Ultra Gen 6, surprised the technology world with its initial performance data in Geekbench 6.7 tests. In tests conducted on an iQOO smartphone with model number V2606A, it was observed that despite being the first portable processor to surpass the 5 GHz barrier, the new generation chipset lagged behind its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
These measurements, based on an engineering sample, indicate that the processor is currently in the optimization phase and may yield different results in the final version.
Processor Can Reach Record Speeds
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Ultra Gen 6 looks quite impressive on paper in terms of technical specifications. The processor architecture includes two main performance cores, three auxiliary performance cores, and three efficiency cores. In particular, the fact that the two main cores reach a frequency of 5.01 GHz represents an unprecedented technological advancement in the history of portable processors.
The auxiliary cores operate at 4.03 GHz, and the efficiency-focused cores at 3.74 GHz. On the graphics side, the Adreno 850 unit handles all the workload.
Performance Tests Showed Surprising Results
Geekbench 6.7 test results revealed that these high frequency values did not translate into a proportional power increase in practice. The engineering prototype achieved 3434 points in the single-core test and 9334 points in the multi-core test. In comparison, the current Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor produces higher results of 3649 and 10682 points in the iQOO 15 device. This situation indicates that the new generation architecture is not yet operating at full efficiency in terms of software.
Optimization Process Remains Important
Industry experts warn that these low scores may be misleading. These devices, called engineering samples (ES), often carry the hardware of the final product, but their software management and power consumption profiles are not yet fully established.
It is known that the innovations brought about by the 2-nanometer (N2P) manufacturing process require a longer testing process in terms of heat management and stability. It is claimed that the company is conducting extensive optimization work to improve these data in the commercial devices it will release to the market.
