The Samsung Galaxy A18 4G has been quietly launched in the European market. Officially listed in France, Norway, and Sweden, this new smartphone takes its place in the market as the successor to the Galaxy A17 4G model.
While Samsung has made some hardware updates with the new model, it is also taking a strong approach in terms of software enhancements. A 5G-enabled version of the device is also expected to be introduced in the future.
Hardware and Technical Specifications
Although the Galaxy A18 4G does not offer a major hardware revolution compared to its predecessor, it does make changes on the processor side. The company switched to the Exynos 1610 chipset instead of the MediaTek Helio G99 used in the previous model.
On the screen side, a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel is preferred. Offering a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, this screen promises a smooth experience with its 90 Hz refresh rate.
The phone has a triple camera system on the back. The main camera consists of a 50 MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture.
The system is accompanied by a 5 MP ultra-wide-angle and a 2 MP macro camera. On the front, there is a 13 MP selfie camera.
The device can record video at 1080p resolution at 30 fps with both the front and rear cameras. The camera hardware doesn’t offer a significant image upgrade compared to the previous generation with the Helio G99 processor.
In terms of durability, Samsung takes the Galaxy A18 a step further. The phone has an IP64 certification, providing protection against dust and splashes.
The device has a 5,000 mAh battery. Samsung states that this battery is rated to last up to 1,200 charging cycles.
Thanks to 25W fast charging, the phone can reach 50% charge in approximately 30 minutes. The side-mounted fingerprint reader is used for security.
Software Support and Pricing
The Galaxy A18 4G comes out of the box with Android 17 operating system and One UI 9 interface. Samsung is committed to providing operating system updates for the device for six years.
In France, the version with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage went on sale for €280. Shipments are expected to begin on September 18th.
In the Norwegian market, the 128 GB model is listed at 3,290 NOK, and the 256 GB model at 5,190 NOK. Based on current exchange rates, these prices correspond to approximately €305 and €481 respectively.
The Galaxy A17 4G was launched in Europe last year with a starting price of approximately €200. Moreover, the base configuration of the A17 offered 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage.
The Galaxy A18 4G, despite having largely entry-level specifications, is being launched with a starting price approximately 80 euros higher than its predecessor. Samsung is offering three different color options for the device in France: Grey, Light Blue, and Black.
