Redmi K100 Pro to Come with New Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5V

The Redmi K100 Pro comes with the affordable Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5V processor. Here are the technical details of the new chipset and the device’s key features.

Rising component costs in the smartphone world are leading manufacturers to more cost-effective solutions. As part of this trend, Qualcomm has developed the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5V, a more affordable version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 series.

Chinese technology manufacturer Redmi is preparing to launch the K100 Pro, the first device to use this new chipset, next week. Sources have already revealed the performance details of this new processor.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5V Technical Details

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5V (SM8850-1-AB), like other 8 Elite Gen 5 models, is developed using the TSMC N3P manufacturing process. The processor retains the high-performance Oryon CPU cores running at 4.6GHz, successfully delivering the same raw processing power as other members of the series.

On the graphics side, some changes are noticeable in the Adreno 840 GPU unit. While the fully-fledged Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 GPU has a three-slice architecture and 18MB of dedicated graphics memory, the 5V version comes with a two-slice architecture and 12MB of dedicated graphics memory.

Despite these technical differences, well-known games such as Honor of Kings, Delta Force, and Peacekeeper Elite continue to maintain stable frame rates. However, it is stated that frame rate drops can occur during intense scenes in graphics-intensive games such as Genshin Impact.

Redmi K100 Pro Specifications and Market Expectations

Redmi shared some hardware specifications of the K100 Pro model before its launch on August 11th. The device will feature a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a 185Hz refresh rate.

While no exact figures have been given regarding battery capacity, it has been confirmed that the device will come with a larger battery. Although it remains uncertain whether the Redmi K100 Pro will be released globally, it is expected to be a pioneer in a new trend of cost-cutting smartphones.

It is claimed that options like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5V will gain more market share against Qualcomm’s future high-priced chipsets. How do you think smartphone manufacturers turning to these kinds of trimmed-down processors to reduce costs will affect user experience?
