Realme Says Goodbye to the Chinese Market

Realme Says Goodbye to the Chinese Market

Realme is withdrawing from the Chinese market and focusing entirely on the global market. realme UI and OxygenOS interfaces are replaced by the ColorOS platform.

BBK Electronics, one of the largest umbrella companies in the smartphone world, has made a historic restructuring decision for the giant brands within its structure.

According to the official statement made by Oppo, the company’s sister brands Realmeoath OnePlusIt completely changes its strategies in the global market.

With the radical decision taken, Realme completely stops its operations and new product developments in its homeland, China, and shifts its focus to global (international) markets.

While OnePlus focuses on strengthening its dominance in the Chinese market, it is suspending new product launches in Europe and North America.

This step taken by companies to reduce operational costs, prevent market conflicts and increase efficiency radically changes not only the hardware side but also the software ecosystem.

Why Did BBK Electronics Make Such a Decision?

Competition in the smartphone market is becoming more brutal every day. The fact that giants such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Honor and Samsung follow an aggressive strategy in both the entry segment and the flagship market causes the brands under the umbrella of BBK Electronics to compete with each other.

In major markets such as India, Europe and China, Oppo, OnePlus and Realme models often compete in similar price segments. This situation causes companies belonging to the same holding to enter into unnecessary competition and waste marketing budgets.

Oppo management, which wants to prevent this internal competition, implements a clear business strategy. Realme has enormous popularity in global markets, especially in Europe, Southeast Asia and Latin America, especially with its price-performance focused models.

Realme, which has stood out from the intense competitive environment in China, is now shaping all its engineering and innovation power according to the expectations of international users. OnePlus, on the other hand, is preparing to directly compete with giants such as Apple and Huawei in its own home by increasing its premium perception in the Chinese domestic market.

Era of Single Framework in Software: OxygenOS and realme UI Becoming History

The part of this restructuring that will affect users the most and be the most discussed in the technology world is, of course, on the software side.

To date, ColorOS was used on Oppo devices, OxygenOS (HydrogenOS in China) on OnePlus models, and realme UI interfaces on Realme phones.

Although these three interfaces essentially shared the same source code, their development by independent groups significantly increased operational costs.

The holding takes the OxygenOS and ColorOS integration, which it started in 2021, one step further. With the new decision, realme UI and OxygenOS interfaces are completely eliminated.

All future Realme and OnePlus devices will be powered by Oppo directly out of the box. ColorOSIt comes with an operating system interface. Eligible devices that are currently on the market and whose update support continues to have the option of switching to the ColorOS interface with the new updates to be released.

What Will a Single Interface Provide to Users?

Bringing together three other software groups under one roof practically enables the company’s resources to be used much more efficiently. Thanks to this attack, Oppo:

  • Android has the opportunity to distribute security patches and major version updates much faster.

  • Artificial intelligence features (BBK artificial intelligence tools such as Galaxy AI or Apple Intelligence) are integrated into all devices at the same time.

  • Software optimization problems and chronic defects are resolved in a much shorter time.

How Will Users React?

The repercussions of this radical strategy change on the user side are probably shaped in two different directions. Saying goodbye to OnePlus’ OxygenOS interface, which is legendary for its closeness to the pure Android experience, its speed and its unique community features, greatly saddens the brand’s loyal fan base. Many users were choosing their smartphones solely for this interface.

On the other hand, this can mean a great advantage for Realme users. ColorOS, which is much more mature, stable and has a wider range of features compared to Realme UI, has the potential to completely change the face of entry and mid-segment Realme phones.

In addition, the joint use of Oppo’s strong technical service and after-sales support network with Realme in global markets increases the user experience. We will see how this move of BBK Electronics will be reflected in the global smartphone sales lists in the coming months.
