PS5 emulator development, conducted through SharpEmu and KytyPS5 projects, has surpassed a significant milestone. With the latest updates, 12 out of 55 tested games have successfully launched, with 6 becoming fully playable at 60 FPS.

According to information shared by names like Modern Vintage Gamer and developer Scarecrow, the emulation world is progressing much faster than expected, including AAA titles like Demon’s Souls and Astro Bot. While a stable structure for overall user experience isn’t yet available, these developments represent a critical milestone in the process of porting PS5 games to PC.

  • It was announced that 6 games run flawlessly at 60 FPS through the SharpEmu and KytyPS5 projects.
  • Demon’s Souls reached 40-50 FPS on KytyPS5 with high hardware requirements.
  • Developers are using AI tools in their research to accelerate the emulation process.

AI Support in Emulation Technology is Increasing

It is stated that the reason behind the rapid progress of PS5 emulation projects lies in the AI technologies integrated into the software processes.

Especially the analyzes prepared by Modern Vintage Gamer confirm that AI-powered tools provide great ease in engineering and code analysis processes. SharpEmu and KytyPS5 teams emphasize that AI is only an aid, and that all contributions must be understandable and debuggable.

High Hardware Requirements Continue to Pose a Challenge

Currently, running visually intensive games like Demon’s Souls requires very powerful hardware such as a state-of-the-art RTX 5090 graphics card and an i9-14900K processor.

While this indicates that emulation is not yet ready for widespread use, the performance increase achieved continues to surprise the gaming community. In particular, the fact that Demon’s Souls can run in the 40-50 FPS range demonstrates the optimization success of the emulation engines.

Open Source Developers Warn Against AI Code

This rapid development in the world of emulation also brings with it ethical debates. The inclusion of poorly thought-out and incomprehensible code in the project, previously described as an “AI slop” by RPCS3 developers, is creating tension among PS5 developers as well.

Experienced developers argue that while using AI as a tool is valuable, individuals who are not familiar with the code’s content are damaging open-source projects.
