Photo syncing between Samsung Gallery and Microsoft OneDrive ends at the end of September. Here are the changes and alternatives waiting for users.
The photo and image backup integration between Microsoft OneDrive and Samsung Gallery, which Samsung Galaxy users have been using for a long time, will be removed soon. This collaboration created a valuable alternative, especially for users who did not want to be tied to the Google ecosystem.
Samsung and Microsoft decided to completely stop their cloud storage collaboration at the end of September. Users started to evaluate alternative backup methods to avoid being affected by this change.
Microsoft OneDrive and Samsung Gallery part ways
According to the statement made by Microsoft, the Samsung Gallery application will not be directly paired with OneDrive as of October 1. After this date, the photos in your OneDrive account will no longer appear in the Gallery app on your phone.
After the change, synchronization-related features will be disabled and photos will not be able to be viewed on Samsung TV or smart devices. However, your data will continue to remain in your OneDrive account and can be downloaded to your local storage whenever you want.
In preparation for this process, Samsung sends informative messages to its users, giving them time to find alternative solutions. While it has been observed that OneDrive synchronization settings have already been removed on some devices, this feature is expected to not be included in the new Galaxy Z Fold8 and Flip8 models.
Ways to keep backing up your photos
Although direct pairing via Samsung Gallery is not possible after September, you can continue to make backups using the OneDrive application. To do this, it will be sufficient to download the Microsoft OneDrive application from the Play Store and enable the camera backup option in your account settings.
Apart from OneDrive, different cloud storage solutions such as Google Photos, Dropbox or Amazon are also among the alternatives for users. Users who want to retain complete data control can turn to open source systems such as Immich or Nextcloud that they can host on their own servers.
These types of customized solutions involve a process that requires you to manage your own hardware and network configuration. Those who do not want to give up the convenience of using cloud services can continue their backup processes through the applications offered by existing service providers.
