Minister of Transport Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the number of 5G subscribers in Turkey approached 34 million in a short time. In the 5G era, which starts in 2026, the goal is to cover all of Türkiye within two years.
Minister Uraloğlu states that the number of 5G subscribers approached 34 million in the first 40 days of the service. This figure is considered the most concrete indicator of how quickly Türkiye has adapted to new generation communication technologies and the high demand for mobile internet speed.
5G service in Türkiye reached the 34 million subscriber mark in just 40 days after the official launch on April 1, 2026.
The Ministry aims to increase the coverage area to 100 percent by delivering 5G infrastructure to every point of Türkiye in the next two years.
While the number of 5G compatible devices exceeds 32 million, the fiber infrastructure length exceeds 600 thousand kilometers and forms the basis of high-speed connection.
Digital Sovereignty and Domestic Technology Emphasis
Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu states that technology has become one of the most important elements of global competition and national security, rather than just a means of communication.
Emphasizing that Turkey sees digitalization not only as a technological change but also as a matter of development and sovereignty, Uraloğlu draws attention to the importance of domestic and national 5G studies by saying, “The most powerful countries of the digital age will be those who develop technology, not just consume it.” Thanks to end-to-end domestic 5G network projects, Türkiye aims to reduce foreign dependency in communications infrastructure.
A Period of 10-fold Increase in Internet Speed
With the introduction of 5G technology into our lives, not only mobile internet speed increases, but also delay times decrease to a minimum level.
Offering at least 10 times higher speeds compared to current 4.5G technology, 5G meets the need for low-latency connectivity required for the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous vehicles and smart city systems. Minister Uraloğlu states that fiber infrastructure works also play a vital role in this process, and says that Turkey will maintain its top position in Europe by further increasing its fiber length in a short time.
Target: All of Türkiye in Two Years
5G signals, currently offered in certain regions in 81 provinces, are expanding day by day with investments and base station conversions. The billions of dollars of investments made by operators after the historic tender on October 16, 2025 directly improve the user experience.
According to the projection drawn by the Ministry, it is planned that by 2028 there will not be a single point in Turkey that 5G does not reach. This proliferation process is seen as a force that will trigger the digital revolution in many sectors, from industry to agriculture, from education to health.
