New Raise Wave on PlayStation 5 Front

New Raise Wave on PlayStation 5 Front

Sony announced that it has increased the price of the refurbished PlayStation 5 Slim models by $ 100, citing the increase in hardware costs.

Buying a console for game lovers is becoming more difficult every day. Sony, which recently increased the prices of new PlayStation 5 models, is now taking a step that will upset those looking for a budget-friendly alternative.

The company is applying a huge $ 100 increase to the prices of refurbished PS5 Slim models.

Artificial Intelligence Craze Is Hitting Hardware Costs

The main reason for the price increases in the industry is not directly related to the gaming world. The rapid growth of AI data centers is expanding demand for key components such as RAM and processors (CPUs).

This situation increases both PC assembly costs and console production costs. While players who want to escape the increase in new models are currently turning to refurbished devices, Sony’s latest move largely closes this door.

How Much Are the Prices of the Refurbished PS5 Slim?

With the latest update, the price of the renewed PS5 Slim model with disk drive increases from $ 449.99 to $ 549.99. The price of the PS5 Slim model without a disk drive, where only digital games can be played, increases from $ 399.99 to $ 499.99. These devices may have minor cosmetic defects; It comes with a 1 TB SSD, DualSense controller and necessary cables.

To remember, Sony also increased the prices of new consoles in April; The standard model is $649.99, the digital version is $599.99, and the PS5 Pro model is $899.99. Going far beyond the original release prices in 2020 ($499 on disc, $449 digitally) is drawing a justified reaction from the gaming community.

There Is Only One Affordable Option Left and Sales Are Increasing

Amidst all this raise storm, there is still a small glimmer of hope for players who are considering their budget. The renewed version of the original (first generation) PS5 with a disc with 825 GB storage continues to maintain its $ 399 price tag for now.

On the other hand, when we look at market competition, it seems that Sony managed to surpass the new Nintendo Switch 2 in sales figures for most of 2026, despite all these price increases. It is a matter of curiosity how PS5 sales, which boomed with the concern of a “higher price increase” just before the price hike in April, will follow this latest price hike for refurbished devices.
