New Measure from Apple Against iPhone Theft

New Measure from Apple Against iPhone Theft

Apple is working on a new accelerometer-based security system to protect iPhone devices against snatching and theft.

Smartphone theft continues to be a significant security problem for users, especially purse snatching incidents. The technology world is focusing on new security layers that use in-device sensors to solve this problem.

Google took an important step by launching a similar storage system for the Android ecosystem in 2024. Now, Apple continues to work on a similar security infrastructure for iPhone models.

Theft detection with accelerometer

The new system that Apple is working on works by analyzing the accelerometer and various sensor data on iPhone devices. This technology aims to automatically lock the device by detecting sudden movements such as taking the phone out of the hand.

When the system is activated, thieves are prevented from accessing the data on the device. Additionally, as long as the protection is active, turning off the device’s internet connection is prevented, thus preserving the possibility of remote monitoring.

Date awaited for announcement

There is no exact timetable yet for when Apple will launch this new security feature. It is possible that the company will introduce this system at the WWDC26 event next month or wait until the end of the year.

This feature aims to use hardware sensors more effectively to protect users’ information. The fact that a similar structure is already used on the Android side also reveals Apple’s competition in this field.

With this system, the company plans to take the security level of iPhone users to the next level.

What do you think about this new anti-theft system?
