Apple is preparing to introduce the new MacBook Pro design next month. While this new device is expected to come with innovations such as an OLED screen, touch capabilities, and Dynamic Island, details about the MacBook Ultra release date and strategy have begun to become clear.

Naming the new model MacBook Ultra makes Apple’s positioning in its product range more obvious. Initially, it was thought that the 14-inch M5 processor MacBook Pro would carry this name.

However, information shared by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg showed that the design elements will also be carried over to the basic models. This strengthened the idea that the MacBook Ultra brand will be positioned in a higher segment.

New MacBook Product Range and Strategy

A new report published by Omdia reveals that Apple will continue to produce its current miniLED display panels until 2028. This means that the current MacBook Pro models will remain on the market.

Therefore, it seems quite likely that the newly designed model will be offered for sale with a significant price difference. Naming the new model MacBook Ultra makes much more sense with this pricing strategy.

By the fall of 2026, Apple’s product range will include various options such as MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Ultra. MacBook Neo models will come with A18 Pro processors, while the MacBook Air series will be updated with M5 processors.

MacBook Pro models will continue to use miniLED display technology. The MacBook Ultra will be positioned in the top segment with OLED screens and more powerful processor options.

In the spring of 2027, this product range will expand even further. MacBook Neo models will switch to the A19 Pro processor, while the MacBook Air series will be updated with the M6 processor.

On the MacBook Pro side, a new option with an M7 processor and OLED screen will be added to the system. The MacBook Ultra will remain at the top of the product range with its OLED display technology and high-performance processor options.

Pricing Expectations

Apple’s strategy may aim to keep starting prices more accessible. Current miniLED MacBook Pro models are expected to start at around $2499.

The new MacBook Ultra model is expected to launch with a higher starting price of around $2999. This new product range strategy allows Apple to offer a wider range of options to meet different user needs.

Especially the OLED display and touch capabilities could make a significant difference for professional users. The company’s decision to keep miniLED panels until 2028 suggests a gradual transition.
